Glastonbury 2013 – Past Performers Wordle

27 June 2013

Misc Special Events

Excited Glastonbury festival-goers have already arrived at Worthy Farm, Somerset for the world-famous festival that was first started 43 years ago by Farmer Michael Eavis, who still oversees proceedings today.  The festival has grown in size and popularity to be the huge and spectacular draw that it is today, but still manages to retain its eclectic hippy charm – with “1000 acres of creativity” as an amusing diversion for the music-lovers that are more than happy to spend £205 on a ticket for the event – which was sold-out in 1hour 40 minutes.  It’s back to business as usual for the festival, which was given a year off last year in 2012, due to the Jubilee and Olympic celebrations – but is back with a bang in 2013.  The main performances start on Friday 28th, with Arctic Monkeys headlining, the Rolling Stones are there on Saturday and Mumford & Sons round things off on Sunday.  Other notable acts on the bill are Primal Scream, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and the Smashing Pumpkins. Among the more leftfield acts to take to one of the famous stages, are,  Sir Bruce Forsyth proving you’re never too old, the veteran country singer Kenny Rogers and some of the Dalai Lama’s Tibetan Monks.

The excellent news for both performers and festival-goers, is that the weather is forecast to be warm and mostly dry, so the ubiquitous wellies may be redundant this time around….

If you aren’t lucky enough to be going, you can watch performances from the BBC coverage, as well as other relevant stuff.

Glastonbury Performers Wordle

To celebrate this epic festival, we have created a wordle to show all of the different performers that have graced the Two Main Stages from 1994 till 2013 (obviously excluding years off).  Performers that have performed more often, are shown bigger in the wordle, with acts like Orbital and Super Furry Animals performing regularly, and of course, there are others that only make it there on one occasion.  The mix of genres of music and the levels of recognition of the different artists varies a great deal – ranging from megastars to the obscure, but it is a great trip down memory lane to revisit the artists that were big in yesteryear, and of course some are still going strong.  Click on the Wordle below to display a larger version:
